Operational Updates

Please find below the latest key updates from our Global Operations Team. Note that the situation is changing rapidly so please contact your local Biocair office for a specific update on a particular region.


Monday 30 March

UK

  • Some airlines have opened up their passenger flights for use as cargo only
  • There are options to charter flights, an option for either bulk or highly valuable materials. Contact your local Biocair office for more information

Friday 27 March

Global

  • For those countries implementing lockdown procedures, Biocair is arranging the appropriate paperwork and permits to ensure its staff are classified as key workers. As a result, Biocair will still be able to continue operating and its transport workers will continue to collect/deliver shipments wherever possible
  • Biocair's drivers are continuing with collections and deliveries, please work with them to preserve your safety and their safety by remembering the social distancing rules when they are on site. We are truly proud of our drivers as they continue to provide such high levels of service

China

  • The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) will introduce new measures on 29 March aimed at decreasing the number of international passenger flights to help minimise the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Biocair's Operations team in China is working closely with key airlines in order to secure the safe transport for upcoming shipments


Wednesday 25 March

UK

  • Some routes to Canada are being cancelled. However Biocair is constantly liaising with airlines and is arranging alternative routes
  • All international flights to/from Moscow are now suspended. Biocair is implementing alternative options


Tuesday 24 March

Global

  • Biocair continues liaising with various major airlines in an effort to open-up ground passenger flights to carry cargo at least 2-3 times a week

US

  • Many shipments are being consolidated due to cancellation of flights from some airports. However, it is still possible to arrange shipments in/out of the US, despite the current situation
  • Options available to fly into Asia with several airlines

UK

  • Following the latest guidelines from the UK Government regarding COVID-19, Biocair's staff are classified as key workers as they provide an essential service within the healthcare supply chain
  • Several airlines are still flying into key regions, including Asia and the US
  • Biocair is looking into charter options in order to secure shipments to key destinations

South Africa

  • Although several airlines have cancelled flights, Biocair's Operations team in South Africa is still managing to book shipments from JNB

Germany

  • Lufthansa is running reduced schedules so freighter routes are being optimised
  • Road freight options remain available despite significant delays at all border points

Belgium

  • Lufthansa freighter flights to key US destinations still operating
  • KLM flights out of AMS still operating
  • All road options still available but expect delays


Monday 23 March

Global

  • Emirates announces closing of global network (all routes) as of 25 March
  • Etihad announces the suspension of all passenger flights as of 25 March

APAC

  • There are no major issues regarding the daily operations of Biocair offices
  • Vast majority of Singapore and China employees are working in the offices

Germany

  • Lufthansa is running reduced schedules - this is changing regularly
  • Road freight options remain available but there have been significant delays at the Polish border - up to 60km tailbacks

Belgium

  • KLM flights out of AMS still operating
  • All road options still available but expect delays

UK

  • Several options remain available to secure shipments to the US

South Africa

  • South Africa is on lockdown from midnight Thursday 26 March until 16 April following the President's speech held on the evening of 23 March
